Meet the team

The Grayed Danes Lacrosse Collective is led by a dedicated Board of Directors comprised of UAlbany lacrosse alumni and community leaders. United by a passion for the program and a commitment to its future, the board oversees the collective’s mission to support student-athletes through meaningful NIL opportunities and community engagement.

Chris Whyland

Chairman/President, UAlbany 1983-87

Chris began playing lacrosse in 10th grade at Bishop Ludden High School in Syracuse, NY, under the guidance of the legendary coaches Chris Kenneally and Bill Webster. Summers were spent honing his skills with a crew of Central New York misfits playing box lacrosse at Shove Park.

He went on to play at the University at Albany from 1983–1987, serving as a faceoff specialist and finishing with a 70% career win percentage. After graduation, Chris earned both his J.D. and MBA from Syracuse University in 1990. In 2025 he received his master’s degree in Creative Writing & Literature at Harvard University.

​

Chris has been a practicing attorney for over 30 years and currently lives in Manlius, NY.

Nic Raio

Secretary, UAlbany 1989-93

Dr. Nicolas Raio was a Goaltender at UAlbany from 1989-1993. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He went on to earn his MD from Howard University College of Medicine in 1998. He did an internship and residency in internal Medicine at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY, as well as his fellowship in Cardiovascular disease, finishing up in 2004. He is currently an associate professor of clinical medicine and an Attending Cardiologist at NYU Long Island Hospital. Dr. Raio has remained involved in Lacrosse since graduation, and currently is the director of Hills Youth Lacrosse on Long Island. He sits on the board of directors of the Long Island Metro Lacrosse Foundation, and the Half Hollow Hills Lacrosse Club.

Vice Chairman, UAlbany 1982-86

Dave Cerny has been immersed in the game of lacrosse for over 46 years as both a player and coach. A native of Rochester in Upstate New York, Dave played collegiate lacrosse at the University at Albany, earning All-American honors in 1986.

​

Following graduation, he served as an Assistant Coach at the University of Notre Dame from 1986–1988 while completing his MBA. He moved to Cleveland in 1987 to begin his career with KeyBank and has remained deeply involved in the local lacrosse scene ever since. As a player, Dave has competed with the Cleveland Lacrosse Club, Chagrin Valley Club, Albany Alumni, and Notre Dame Alumni teams. As a coach, he has led programs at St. Ignatius High School and Solon High School.

Dave has also made a significant impact off the field. He has served for over a decade on the board of the North Coast Ohio Chapter of USA Lacrosse, including as President, and currently sits on its Executive Board. In 2020, he received national recognition as the recipient of the Homer Schwartz Award from USA Lacrosse, honoring his role in launching Cleveland Community Lacrosse and expanding the sport in underserved urban areas.

He currently resides in Pepper Pike, OH, and runs Chatham Development LLC, a real estate development firm specializing in multi-family housing.

Brad Rabinowitz

Treasurer, UAlbany 1981-85

Brad D. Rabinowitz is an attorney with Montgomery McCracken's New York Office and serves as their Co-Managing Partner.  Brad has over 30 years of experience in real estate law and concentrates his global practice on all aspects of commercial and residential real estate transactions, including representation of domestic and international clients in asset acquisitions and financing. Brad has advised various lending institutions including commercial and residential lenders, mortgage bankers and asset-based lenders in connection with permanent and construction loans, workouts, and loan restructuring.  He earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany and was a four-year member of the varsity lacrosse team.  After graduation he went on to receive his J.D. degree from the Boston University School of Law.  Brad is co-founder of the Lake Placid Grey'd Danes Lacrosse Team and he continues to play for Team Israel's Masters Team in tournaments.
